Clerics Criticize Tinubu's UK Visit Amid National Crisis

Clerics have expressed strong disapproval of President Bola Tinubu's state visit to the United Kingdom, which he undertook on Tuesday alongside his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and several top government officials. This trip marks the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years.

The criticism intensified following a bomb blast in Maiduguri, Borno State, that resulted in 23 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Clergymen, including Rev.

Toni Uzo, labeled the visit as callous, accusing Tinubu of prioritizing red carpets and photo opportunities over the urgent needs of a nation facing severe insecurity. They urged him to cancel the trip and instead visit Maiduguri to empathize with victims.

The clerics also highlighted the ongoing violence across Nigeria, including in Osun State, and called for a proactive approach to security, referencing Nnamdi Kanu's detention and advocating for his release as part of addressing the nation's challenges.
