Nigeria Advocates Stronger Africa-Latin America Ties

At the CELAC Forum held in Bogotá, Colombia, from March 20-21, Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, called for intensified collaboration between African and Latin American countries. Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tuggar highlighted the importance of a united approach to navigate global uncertainties and promote economic resilience.

He praised Colombian President Gustavo Petro for convening the forum, which aims to redefine the roles of both regions amid geopolitical tensions and economic disruptions. Tuggar urged countries to coordinate efforts to shape international outcomes, enhance peace, and share prosperity.

He emphasized the significance of South-South cooperation, particularly in agriculture, renewable energy, and technology, warning that the Global South must not be left behind in technological advancements. The forum also addressed cultural exchanges and the need for joint action on climate change and healthcare access.

Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to international cooperation and the deployment of Nigerian professionals in Caribbean nations, reflecting a broader commitment to strengthen ties across Latin America and the Caribbean.
