Peter Obi Calls for Urgent Action Against Insecurity

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for immediate and decisive action from all levels of government to combat the escalating violence, killings, and abductions across Nigeria. In a Facebook post, he expressed alarm over recent attacks in Benue, Plateau, and Niger States, labeling the situation a national security emergency.

Obi referenced a specific incident in Jwak Maitumbi, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where at least 23 people were officially reported killed, while local residents claimed the death toll exceeded 30. He also mentioned that over 45 houses were destroyed during this attack.

In Niger State, more than 40 deaths and over 100 abductions were reported, although these figures are contested. Obi emphasized that these incidents are part of a broader pattern of violence affecting various regions, urging the Federal and state governments to enhance security measures, improve intelligence, and focus on preventing attacks.

He warned against allowing Nigeria to become a "killing field," stressing that protecting lives and property is the government's fundamental duty.
