Peter Obi Advocates for National Unity Through History

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), articulated that Nigeria's historical tragedies, such as the 1966 coups and the civil war, should be utilized as resources for national transformation. In a Facebook post, he responded to concerns regarding his comments on the 1966 coups during an appearance on Arise News, asserting his readiness to engage in discussions about Nigeria's history.

Obi emphasized that many of Nigeria's crises stem from leadership failures and the inconsistent application of laws. He cited examples from Japan, South Korea, and China, illustrating how nations can leverage past difficulties for economic and institutional growth.

He also referenced Rwanda's experience as a model for promoting unity and development. Obi pledged that, if elected president, he would foster a Nigeria free from discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, or social background, stating, "Our past is important, but our past is not our destiny." He called for leadership focused on unifying issues rather than deepening divisions.
