Nigeria Invests N217bn to Boost Medical Education

The Nigerian government has committed N217 billion to strengthen medical education, as disclosed by Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa during the inauguration of the International Conference at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

This investment aims to expand training capacity and is part of a special high-impact project set to be completed by 2025. President Bola Tinubu's administration recognizes that sustainable healthcare development relies on investing in institutions responsible for training doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals.

Dr. Alausa announced the establishment of a nationwide medical simulation technology center to provide students with modern simulation-based learning that meets international standards.

Additionally, a national research innovation development fund (NRIDF) has been approved to boost Nigeria's science and technology sector, ensuring sustainable financing for research activities and the commercialization of discoveries. Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, described the conference as a significant milestone reflecting the institution's commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness.
