FG Invests N217bn in Medical Training to Boost Healthcare

The Federal Government of Nigeria has injected over N217 billion into medical training and research over the last two years to enhance healthcare services, as disclosed by Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa during the inauguration of the International Conference of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences at the University of Lagos.

This investment is part of a broader effort to strengthen Nigeria's healthcare system and improve the quality of medical education and research. The government allocated N97 billion for 2025 for high-impact projects aimed at increasing the capacity of medical training institutions and approved an additional N120.5 billion for 2026 to support medical college infrastructure and acquire modern equipment.

Plans are underway to establish medical simulation technology centers across the country to provide advanced learning opportunities for students. The government also approved the National Research and Innovation Development Fund (NRIDF) to provide long-term funding for research and innovation within universities and research institutions.
