FG Invests Over N1 Trillion in Nigeria's Tertiary Education
The Federal Government of Nigeria has invested more than N1 trillion in the tertiary education sector over the past two years, marking one of the largest investments in the country's higher education history. Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced this during a meeting with the National Committee for the Advancement of Occupational Therapy, Audiology and Speech and Language Therapy Education.
This investment reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to making higher education accessible regardless of financial background. Key allocations include N250 billion for new student hostels, N150 billion for rehabilitating existing facilities, and over N130 billion for medical education improvements.
Additionally, N52 billion is designated for modern equipment for 18 medical schools, and nearly N30 billion for establishing 11 medical simulation laboratories. The government has also invested almost N110 billion in engineering education.
Dr Alausa emphasized that these investments are designed to equip graduates with the necessary skills for Nigeria's economic growth and development.
