Cross River Officially Recognized as Oil-Producing State

Cross River has been officially listed as an oil-producing state by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). This designation follows the submission of a comprehensive report covering the years 2017 to 2025, which was presented during a plenary session scheduled for January 24-31, 2026.

The report involved extensive verification of 1,000 crude oil locations across Nigeria, confirming the state's oil production status. The verification process, which took place from August 2025 to February 2026, included field verification and technical reconciliation of state submissions.

Shehu, the chairman of RMAFC, highlighted the rigorous nature of the verification process, which involved multiple agencies and aimed to ensure transparency and accuracy in revenue attribution. The report indicates that Cross River has regained its oil production status, with 100 verified oil wells, particularly in OML 114.

The RMAFC chairman anticipates President Bola Tinubu's approval for the implementation of the inter-agency technical committee's recommendations.
