Cross River Confirmed as Oil-Producing State by RMAFC

On February 13, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria's inter-agency committee submitted its final report to the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), confirming Cross River as an oil-producing state. This report was the culmination of a six-month verification exercise conducted from August 2025 to February 2026, led by RMAFC Chairman Mr.

M.B. Shehu.

The committee, consisting of 14 members, verified submissions from 12 states, including Cross River, and identified 1,000 new crude oil well coordinates. The report indicated that Cross River would benefit significantly, with 100 new oil wells attributed to it, a result of a 2012 Supreme Court judgment.

The report also noted that Cross River submitted the highest number of surface coordinates, with expectations to retain 76 oil wells. The RMAFC chairman anticipates that the report will be reviewed by the President for implementation, updating Nigeria's list of oil-producing states.
