Nigeria Drops to 142nd Position in 2025 Corruption Perception Index

Nigeria has dropped to the 142nd position in the 2025 Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International, maintaining a score of 26/100, the same as in 2024. The report highlights the persistent challenges Nigeria faces in addressing corruption in the public sector, despite efforts to implement anti-corruption reforms.

Seychelles has shown notable improvement, ranking as one of the least corrupt countries globally. Nigeria's long-term performance in the Corruption Perception Index has been stagnant, with an average score of 21.48 points since 1996.

The country's ranking reflects ongoing struggles to combat corruption, despite the establishment of anti-corruption agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). The report underscores the need for stronger enforcement mechanisms and reforms to improve transparency and public confidence in the government.
