Adebayo Calls for Change as Nigeria Ranks 142nd in Corruption

Adewol Adebayo, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has expressed concern over Nigeria's decline to 142nd place on the Global Corruption Index, as reported by Transparency International. The index ranks Nigeria 142nd out of 182 countries, with a score of 26 out of 100, indicating a slip from its previous rank of 140th in 2024.

Adebayo noted that Nigeria has shown no improvement in its corruption score over the past decade, emphasizing that the nation has consistently ranked among the most corrupt globally. He argues that corruption is a root cause of Nigeria's socio-economic challenges, including poverty and insecurity.

Adebayo called for a decisive political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians to rally behind the SDP to establish a government genuinely committed to tackling corruption. He stressed that eliminating corruption is essential for addressing poverty and insecurity in the country, highlighting that the current system of graft has hindered national progress.
