Nigeria Shifts Focus to Trade Partnerships with Vietnam

Dr. Maryam Keshinro, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, announced Nigeria's strategic shift from seeking aid to embracing trade partnerships, particularly with Vietnam. Speaking at the Nigerian-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry quarterly business meeting in Lagos, she highlighted the potential of Nigeria's youth population, which has a median age of just 19, as a driving force in the new global economic order.

Keshinro emphasized that Nigeria aims to learn from Vietnam's export-led growth model and its manufacturing capabilities. She warned that the demographic advantage could become a "time bomb" unless the education system evolves.

The meeting also featured insights from Prof. Eghosa Osagha and Mr. Chinasa Ohiri, who stressed the role of youth in shaping Nigeria's future. Dr. Bunmi Kole Dawodu from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency outlined practical steps to support youth entrepreneurship, including establishing common facilities for small business owners to access modern equipment at minimal costs.
