Nigeria and EU Strengthen Strategic Partnership in Abuja

On Monday, Nigeria and the European Union (EU) solidified their strategic partnership in Abuja, emphasizing collaboration in security, trade, and climate action. The 8th Nigeria-EU Ministerial Dialogue, convened by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar and EU team head Kaja Kalla, highlighted the importance of mutual respect and shared global responsibilities.

The discussions addressed ongoing security challenges in West Africa and the Sahel, reviewing joint counter-terrorism efforts and maritime security operations in the Gulf of Guinea. The partnership also aims to expand economic cooperation beyond oil, agriculture, and manufacturing into the digital economy.

The EU reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria as a cornerstone partner in Africa, with over 200 European companies already operating in the country. The dialogue included discussions on climate finance and the need for a balanced approach to migration policies.

Both parties committed to strengthening long-term resilience strategies and addressing humanitarian issues, particularly concerning internally displaced persons.
