The Nigerian government has expelled American missionary Alex Barber, citing concerns over his statements that could incite violence and deepen divisions in the Middle Belt region. Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, confirmed the expulsion, highlighting that Barber's comments during a speech in Plateau State raised serious concerns for national unity and public safety.

Barber, born on August 17, 1997, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, gained recognition as a football kicker before turning to humanitarian work in Nigeria. His projects aimed at rebuilding communities affected by violence have received mixed reactions, with some praising his efforts while others, including former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad and cleric Ahmad Gumi, criticized his rhetoric as potentially dangerous.

Despite no public evidence linking Barber to criminal activities, his presence at violence sites has raised suspicions, prompting calls for investigation by security agencies.
