Nigeria Aims to Strengthen Ties with New UK PM Burnham

Nigeria signaled its intent to deepen economic, security, and diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom following the appointment of Right Honourable Andy Burnham as Prime Minister. In a congratulatory message from Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Nigerian government welcomed the peaceful transition of power in the UK.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu expressed optimism that Burnham's administration would foster cooperation between Abuja and London, particularly during a time of economic pressures and global uncertainties. She highlighted the historical ties and robust connections between Nigeria and the UK, emphasizing their partnership in trade, investment, security, education, and cultural exchange.

The minister noted that both countries, as Commonwealth members, are committed to advancing bilateral relations and addressing shared global priorities. The Nigerian government aims to work closely with Burnham's administration to identify new opportunities for economic and strategic benefits, as Nigeria seeks to expand foreign investment and strengthen security cooperation amid ongoing economic reforms.
