Bayelsa State Trains Teachers in Emergency Response Skills

The Bayelsa State Government has emphasized the importance of emergency response training for teachers, urging them to utilize their skills to save lives and educate their communities. This initiative, organized by the Health Emergency Initiative in partnership with the Ministries of Education and Health, concluded with a three-day training session in Yenagoa.

Mrs Bekere Zuokumor, Director of Secondary Education, represented the Commissioner for Education and highlighted the interconnectedness of health and education. She stressed the need for immediate intervention during emergencies and criticized the tendency to record incidents instead of providing assistance.

Mr Geku Stephen Seinitinkumo, Deputy Director of Secondary Education, noted that the program equipped 40 secondary school students and 10 teachers with practical skills to respond to emergencies before professional help arrives. The training aimed to enhance the emergency-response capacity in schools, with the government expressing willingness to expand such initiatives.
