UBEC Launches Initiative to Support Schoolgirls in Nigeria

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has initiated the distribution of two million packs of sanitary towels and back-to-school learning materials to girls in public basic education schools across Nigeria. This initiative, named “Flow with Confidence 2.0: Keeping Every Girl in School,” was launched by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu on October 12, 2026, at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, coinciding with the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child.

UBEC Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba stated that the program aims to eliminate barriers preventing girls, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, from attending school. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes education and child welfare.

Beneficiaries will receive various educational materials, including sanitary towels, school bags, and textbooks. The expansion follows the original program launched on October 2, 2025, which provided sanitary pads to 370,000 schoolgirls.

Garba also mentioned UBEC's efforts in constructing classrooms and supporting out-of-school children.
