Nigeria's Humanitarian Funding Surges by $17.9 Million

Funding for Nigeria's humanitarian crisis rose by $17.9 million over approximately two months, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). As of August 10, 2026, Nigeria received a total of $265.2 million in humanitarian funding, which includes $257.9 million from Nigeria's Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) and $7.3 million from external sources.

This marks an increase from $247.3 million reported on June 22, 2026. The HNRP funding rose from $232.8 million to $257.9 million, while external funding increased from $5.8 million to $7.3 million.

Nigeria's HNRP coverage rate improved to 50% of its $516.4 million requirement, up from 47% in June. In contrast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo's coverage rate fell to 47%.

Other countries in the region showed lower coverage rates, with the Central African Republic at 42%, Chad at 35%, and Niger at 16%. Overall, West and Central Africa's response plans received $2.55 billion against a requirement of $6.13 billion.
