Nigeria and Jamaica Strengthen 56-Year Bilateral Relations

On September 12, 2026, in Kingston, Jamaica, Dr Jane Bassey Adams presented her letters of credence as Nigeria's Ambassador-Designate to the Governor-General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen. This event marks a significant step in enhancing the 56-year diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Jamaica.

During the ceremony, Adams conveyed greetings from Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing the historical and cultural ties that unite both nations. She expressed her commitment to strengthening these ties through partnerships in various sectors, including trade, health, and education.

Sir Patrick Allen acknowledged the depth of the relationship, highlighting Nigeria's contributions of specialist nurses and educators to Jamaica. The Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, represented by Minister of State Alando Terrelonge, welcomed Adams and discussed practical areas for cooperation, including health and capacity building.

This diplomatic engagement follows Jamaica's recent opening of a consulate in Lagos, enhancing its presence in Nigeria.
