Nigeria and Japan Strengthen Bilateral Relations in Abuja

Nigeria and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their longstanding bilateral relations at the conclusion of the 10th Nigeria-Japan Special Partnership Forum (NJSPF) held in Abuja. The forum, co-chaired by Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Misako Takahashi, Japan’s Assistant Minister and Director-General of the African Affairs Department, emphasized the need to translate goodwill into tangible economic outcomes.

Discussions centered on investment, industrialization, technology transfer, job creation, and youth empowerment. Nigeria proposed establishing a Nigeria-Japan Industrial and Investment Hub to strengthen industrial partnerships.

Both countries identified opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, agriculture, and digital technology. They acknowledged the importance of addressing challenges affecting Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) projects and agreed on investing in youth through education and innovation.

Additionally, they exchanged views on regional issues, reaffirming their commitment to multilateralism and cooperation on international matters.
