Nigeria Leads Fight Against Colorectal Cancer in Africa with Innovative Medicine Project

Nigeria has taken a significant step in combating colorectal cancer by spearheading the launch of the continent's first innovative cancer medicine project. The initiative aims to enhance access to advanced cancer treatments, with the unveiling of the project at a hospital in Abuja symbolizing the government's strategic efforts to address the rising rates of colorectal cancer in the country.

The project, led by Dr. Adekunle Salako and supported by global partners like the Clinton Health Access Initiative and Bristol-Myers Squibb, introduces immunotherapy drugs like nivolumab to boost the body's immune system in fighting cancer cells.

This initiative reflects President Bola Tinubu's commitment to transforming cancer prevention, care, and research in Nigeria.
