National Assembly of Nigeria to Digitize Records and Laws

The National Assembly has announced plans to digitize its parliamentary records and translate Nigerian laws into local languages such as Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. This initiative, disclosed by Henry Nwawuba, Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, aims to expand public access to legislative information and preserve Nigeria's democratic memory.

The announcement was made during the opening of the 2026 National Assembly Library Week, themed “Parliamentary Memory: Connecting Records, Legislation and the People.” Nwawuba emphasized that the library serves as the knowledge infrastructure of the legislature and a repository of parliamentary records and research materials. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Osita Ngwu, encouraged members of the National Assembly to utilize the library more effectively, especially in light of rising misinformation and the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Majority Leader Julius Ihonvbere, stated that legislative records are vital for understanding Nigeria’s legislative history and strengthening democratic governance.
