National Assembly Passes 3,500 Bills in Three Years

Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana, the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), announced that the National Assembly houses over 14,000 personnel daily, which includes career civil servants and legislative aides, excluding the 469 federal lawmakers and visitors. This statistic was shared during the Capacity-Building Training for Legislative Aides in the 10th National Assembly.

Ogunlana stated that in the last three years, the Assembly passed a total of 3,500 bills—1,500 by the Senate and 2,000 by the House of Representatives. He reiterated the need for a special salary scale for legislative aides, who are vital to the legislative process, and called on the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to address this issue.

Ogunlana emphasized the importance of reforms to improve the welfare of legislative aides and enhance their capacity to support their principals effectively.
