Nigeria Requires $22 Billion for Gas Pipeline Projects, NNPC Reveals

Nigeria, as per NNPC, needs $22 billion for gas pipeline projects to boost domestic gas utilization and expand export capacity, aligning with the country's gas master plan up to 2026. The plan, unveiled on January 30, 2026, at the NNPC Tower in Abuja, emphasizes the need to unlock Nigeria's vast underutilized gas resources.

Nigeria holds Africa's largest proven gas reserves of 210 trillion cubic feet, ranking among the top 10 globally. Despite this, Nigeria's gas production in 2025 was 7.5 billion cubic feet per day, with only 60% commercialized and 10% flared.

The plan seeks to increase gas production to 10 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion by 2030, aiming to attract $60 billion in new investments across the gas value chain. The document highlights the untapped potential for growth and investment in Nigeria's gas sector, emphasizing the need to become a key global player.
