Nigeria Plans $20 Billion Gas Pipeline to Europe

The Nigerian government is initiating discussions for a $20 billion transcontinental gas pipeline aimed at transporting the country's vast natural gas resources to the European market. This strategic project, described by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, is expected to enhance energy security and unlock long-term economic value for Nigeria.

The pipeline is designed to transport 30 billion cubic meters of gas annually from Nigeria's southern reserves through Chad and Libya, extending subsea to Sicily, Italy. Key industry stakeholders, including Olalekan Ogunley, Executive Vice President of Gas Power and New Energy at NNPC, and Roger Tamraz, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of NetOil Inc., are actively involved in the discussions.

The project is seen as commercially viable and is expected to generate jobs and attract investments. Currently, it is in the early stages of development, with a consortium of global industry players set to undergo extensive technical, commercial, and regulatory processes.
