Alaafin of Oyo Advocates Affordable Healthcare Access

On Monday, during the official commissioning ceremony of Muslim Hospital in Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, called for the provision of affordable healthcare delivery for the downtrodden. He highlighted the urgent moral and economic necessity to prevent medical costs from pushing vulnerable individuals deeper into poverty.

Oba Owoade pointed out that many poor families pay for medical care out of pocket, which often leads them to skip meals or sell belongings. He proposed mobile health clinics and telemedicine services as effective solutions to reach remote populations, thereby reducing travel costs and improving access to care.

The Alaafin stressed the importance of revitalizing primary health care services, expanding micro health insurance, and enhancing governance to ensure equitable healthcare access. He noted that strengthening primary health facilities is crucial as they serve as the first point of contact for many vulnerable populations in Nigeria.
