Dr. Afolabi Advocates for More Mid-Level Healthcare Workers in Nigeria

Dr. Kayode Afolabi, a former Commissioner of Health in Oyo State, advocates for the training of mid-level healthcare workers to tackle health challenges faced by rural communities in Nigeria.

Speaking at a convocation ceremony, he stressed the importance of engaging federal, state, and local governments in training this workforce to improve healthcare services, particularly at the community level. Dr.

Afolabi, who is also the Provost of the Premier College of Health Technology in Ibadan, highlighted the crucial role of mid-level health professionals and acknowledged regulatory bodies like the Nigerian Board of Technical Education (NBTE) in ensuring quality standards. He urged partnerships with government agencies and boards to support certified colleges in producing ethical and disciplined healthcare professionals.

Additionally, Professor Imran Moharson Bello emphasized the need for government intervention to enhance the capacity of community health workers in Nigeria.
