Nigeria to Deploy Diaspora Doctors Nationwide by 2026

The Nigerian government is set to deploy diaspora doctors across the country by July 2026 as part of an initiative to strengthen healthcare delivery. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), announced this plan in Abuja during the unveiling of the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative (DHII) 2026.

The program aims to coordinate a national platform to leverage the expertise and commitment of Nigerian health professionals abroad to improve health outcomes. The initiative will run during the week leading up to the National Diaspora Day on July 25 and will focus on specialist interventions and long-term institutional partnerships.

The program will align with national health priorities, particularly in underserved communities across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. It will involve collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Education, and various diaspora medical associations.

The initiative will officially launch in Abuja, with a medical team deployed to work in partnership with state governments and local health institutions.
