Nigeria, Netherlands Strengthen Pact Against Human Trafficking

Nigeria and the Netherlands have forged a stronger partnership to combat human trafficking, as highlighted in a recent meeting in Abuja. Senior officials, including Victor Cramer, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Asylum and Migration of the Netherlands, and Binta Bello, Director General of NAPTIP, reviewed the progress of the TIPVAP NG project.

This initiative aims to create a safer environment free from trafficking and violence against vulnerable groups. The project emphasizes not only enforcement but also improving operational procedures, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and enhancing public awareness.

Cramer noted that Nigeria is a key partner in addressing irregular migration and trafficking flows from West Africa to Europe, with Nigerian nationals significantly represented among trafficking victims in the Netherlands. The discussions underscored the importance of international cooperation and a victim-centered approach to protect survivors' dignity.

Both parties agreed on the necessity of a coordinated response to human trafficking and violence, reaffirming their commitment to this humanitarian issue.
