Civil Society Warns Nigeria on Brink of Collapse Under Tinubu

On Tuesday, 52 civil society organizations (CSOs) released a joint statement expressing alarm over Nigeria's precarious situation under President Bola Tinubu. They warned that the country is on the brink of collapse due to escalating insecurity, rising poverty, and a significant decline in public trust in government.

The statement highlighted that citizens are suffering from worsening economic conditions, despite an increase in government revenue following policy changes like subsidy removal and naira floatation. The CSOs noted that the federal budget has exceeded 100 trillion naira in the past two years, surpassing the combined budgets from 1999 to 2017, yet this has not translated into improved living conditions for ordinary Nigerians.

They reported widespread insecurity, including killings, kidnappings, and displacement, particularly in northern regions. The coalition called for urgent government action to address economic hardships, insecurity, and corruption, emphasizing the need for coordinated national security efforts and stronger anti-corruption measures to restore public trust and stabilize Nigeria's democracy.
