Nigeria Owes No Sportsman Any Favour – Olympic Medallist, Udo-Obong Says

Olympic medallist Enefiok Udo-Obong stated that Nigeria does not owe any sportsman any favors, criticizing the neglect retired athletes face from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the government. Udo-Obong's comments came in response to accusations of the NFF neglecting former players, including a public criticism from late Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai and Austin Eguavoen.

The NFF issued a statement countering these claims, stating that it was wrong for former athletes to demand financial favors from the government. Udo-Obong, who won gold in the men's 4x400m relay at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and bronze in Athens 2004, has been appointed as the Technical Director of the Saudi Arabia Athletics Development Programme.

He has previously served as a competing expert in the United States, Britain, Australia, and as the Technical Director of the Lagos State Athletics Association.
