Nigeria and France Enhance Military Cooperation Amid Insecurity

Nigeria and France are reinforcing their military cooperation in response to increasing security challenges. This commitment was reaffirmed during the fifth Nigeria-France High Defence Staff Talk, which took place in Abuja from June 29 to 30.

Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyed represented Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of the talks as a platform to consolidate the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries. Vice Admiral Abolad Ogunley described the discussions as crucial for strengthening bilateral military cooperation, including joint training and intelligence sharing.

Eric Peltier, the leader of the French delegation, expressed gratitude to the Armed Forces of Nigeria for hosting the meeting and reiterated France's commitment to deepening defense collaboration. Both nations aim to address emerging security challenges in the region, with Nigeria being recognized as a leading power in Africa, pivotal for maintaining regional peace and security.

The talks provided an opportunity to identify new areas of cooperation and strengthen existing defense relations.
