Nigeria and Ghana Boost Military Cooperation Amid Security Concerns

Nigeria and Ghana are intensifying their military cooperation to address growing security challenges in West Africa. During a visit by a 47-member delegation from the Ghana Armed Forces Command Staff College to the Nigerian Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, Mr.

Richard Pheelangwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, emphasized the strategic position of both nations in the region. He reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to supporting peace and stability across Africa.

Mr. Bosed Olaniyi, representing the Joint Services Department, acknowledged the critical role of the defense sector in broader national development.

The discussions included ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria's defense industry, such as the re-enactment of the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act and increasing public-private partnerships. Challenges such as inadequate funding and reliance on foreign technology were also highlighted.

Colonel Fiifi Deegb, leading the Ghanaian delegation, expressed appreciation for the engagement, which aims to deepen military collaboration amid rising concerns over terrorism and transnational crime in the region.
