Nigeria Expands Deep Blue Project for Maritime Security

The Nigerian government, led by Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, plans to expand the Deep Blue Project, which aims to enhance maritime security across critical coastal areas, including the Bakassi Peninsula and Igbokoda.

This initiative has successfully recorded zero piracy incidents in Nigerian waters over the past four years and has contributed to a 70% decline in piracy incidents across the Gulf of Guinea since the project's establishment in 2021. The Deep Blue Project integrates air, land, and sea assets to support advanced surveillance systems and rapid response capabilities.

During a recent graduation ceremony, 492 advanced combat personnel were recognized for completing specialized training programs related to the project. The initiative is part of the federal government's broader economic agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing the importance of maritime security for economic growth and trade facilitation.

The project includes various assets such as special mission aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and interceptor boats.
