Nigeria Marks Four Years Without Piracy Incidents

Nigeria's maritime security has seen significant improvement, achieving four consecutive years without piracy incidents in its waters, attributed to the Deep Blue Project. This initiative, led by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), focuses on inter-agency collaboration and the development of maritime capabilities.

A graduation ceremony held in Lagos marked the completion of specialized operational training for 177 maritime security personnel, including 33 special mission vessel officers and 107 fast intervention boat operators. Vice Admiral Idi Abba and Rear Admiral Mustapha Bala Hassan attended the event, which underscored the collective determination to secure Nigeria's maritime domain.

Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director General of NIMASA, noted that the success of the Deep Blue Project has restored global confidence in Nigeria's maritime sector, contributing to economic benefits and attracting foreign investment.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance operational readiness and strengthen indigenous maritime capabilities, crucial for Nigeria's blue economy agenda.
