Nigeria Police Expands Counter-Terrorism Capacity

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced an expansion of its counter-terrorism capabilities by approving the establishment of new Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) bases in Madagali, Adamawa State; Ikot Odo, Akpabuyo, Cross River State; and Od Remo, Ogun State. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the nation's counter-terrorism framework.

A training program, implemented in collaboration with the British High Commission, featured 56 participants from the CTU and focused on contemporary counter-terrorism tactics, intelligence analysis, and operational best practices. The program's closing ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Colonel Ian Tyler, who praised the participants' professionalism and urged them to apply their acquired knowledge in the field.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu emphasized the importance of this training in enhancing the NPF's operational capacity to respond effectively to evolving security threats. The NPF remains committed to strengthening partnerships and deploying strategic resources to combat terrorism across the country.
