NFIU Trains 100 Experts for Nigeria's Financial Assessment

The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), in collaboration with the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) and SecFIN Africa, has initiated a capacity-building programme for 100 experts to enhance Nigeria's readiness for its third-round Mutual Evaluation on anti-money laundering, counter-financing of terrorism, and counter-proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF). This five-day training, taking place in Abuja, aims to equip members of Nigeria’s Mutual Evaluation Working Groups (MEWG) with essential knowledge and skills ahead of the national Mock Mutual Evaluation Exercise set for November 2026.
Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, CEO of the NFIU, emphasized the need for Nigeria to demonstrate the effectiveness of its laws and institutional frameworks. Mam Cherno Jallow, Director-General of GIABA, highlighted the importance of a common understanding of mutual evaluation methodology.
SecFIN Africa’s Country Representative, Professor Shehu Abdullahi, stressed the necessity for collaboration among institutions to ensure successful preparation and effective demonstration of Nigeria’s financial integrity framework.
