Nigeria Ranks 36th Most Corrupt Country Globally in 2025 - Transparency International Report

In 2025, Transparency International ranked Nigeria as the 36th most corrupt country globally, a slight improvement from its 2024 ranking of 140th. The Corruption Perceptions Index assessed 182 countries, with Nigeria joining Cameroon, Guatemala, Guinea, Kyrgyzstan, and Papua New Guinea in sharing the 36th position with a total score of 26 points.

Denmark maintained its position as the least corrupt country with 89 points, followed by Finland, Singapore, and New Zealand. No African country made it to the top 10 list of cleanest countries.

Ma Ra Martini, the Chief Executive Officer of Transparency International, highlighted the global decline in anti-corruption efforts, emphasizing the need for stronger leadership and enforcement to combat corruption. Martini urged leaders to address power abuses and strengthen democratic institutions to prevent the further decline in anti-corruption measures.
