Transparency International Ranks Nigeria Among Most Corrupt Countries in 2025 Index

Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index for 2025 has placed Nigeria at 142nd out of 182 countries, indicating a decline from its 140th position in 2024. Despite being labeled as the 36th most corrupt country in the world, Nigeria scored 26 out of 100 points.

The index highlights persistent governance challenges and the perceived level of public sector corruption globally. Countries like Denmark, Finland, and Singapore rank as the least corrupt nations, with Nigeria being among the bottom countries.

Transparency International's CEO, Ma Ra Martini, emphasized the impact of weak leadership and shrinking civic space on global anti-corruption efforts. Nigeria's ranking reflects ongoing governance gaps in Africa, with other African nations like Seychelles, Cabo Verde, and Botswana faring better in terms of corruption perception.
