Tinubu Reaffirms Nigeria's Commitment to ECOWAS Integration

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated a new headquarters for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja, where he reiterated Nigeria's commitment to regional integration and peace. He called for a renewed focus on industrialization and economic cooperation among West African nations to enhance prosperity.

Tinubu highlighted the importance of addressing serious challenges facing the region, including terrorism, violent extremism, economic vulnerability, food insecurity, climate change, and public health concerns, particularly as the youth population grows. He noted the recent withdrawal of three member states from ECOWAS but stressed that the door remains open for dialogue and deeper solidarity.

Tinubu commended Julius Bio, the Chairman of ECOWAS and President of Sierra Leone, for his steady leadership during challenging times. He also acknowledged the support from the government and people of China in financing the new complex, which was constructed by Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Nigerian stakeholders.
