Tinubu Inaugurates New ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the new ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, representing a renewed commitment to regional integration and prosperity. During the ceremony, Vice President Kashim Shettima described the complex as a symbol of collective resolve and ideals upheld by ECOWAS over the past five decades.

Tinubu noted that while ECOWAS has achieved significant milestones in peacebuilding and economic cooperation, the sub-region still faces major threats such as terrorism, economic vulnerability, food insecurity, and climate change. He urged member states to focus on transforming the region into a product-based economy rather than a consumer market.

Tinubu also acknowledged the leadership of Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio and expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for financing the project through Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group. ECOWAS Commission President Omar Touray emphasized the importance of the new headquarters in enhancing coordination and support for the organization’s expanded mandate.
