Nigeria Rejects Canadian Court Ruling Labeling APC, PDP As Terrorist Organisations

The Nigerian government has rejected a Canadian court ruling that labeled the country's major political parties, the APC and PDP, as terrorist organizations. The ruling by Justice Phuong Ngo of the Federal Court of Canada denied asylum to a Nigerian, Douglas Egharevba, who is a member of one of the parties.

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the classification as reckless and unacceptable interference in Nigeria's internal affairs. The Ministry emphasized that Nigeria is a sovereign nation with a robust legal framework guiding political activities, and that associating legitimate political entities with terrorism without credible evidence undermines the country's democratic institutions.

The government called on Canadian authorities to withdraw the designation and engage through diplomatic channels to address the issue.
