Prove you are not terrorist groups — Falana challenges APC, PDP

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has challenged the ruling parties, APC and PDP, to prove they are not terrorist organizations. This challenge comes after a controversial ruling by a Canadian Federal Court, which described the parties as engaging in conduct amounting to terrorism under Canadian law.

Falana urged the parties to address the serious concerns raised by the court instead of dismissing the judge's pronouncement as ignorant or mischievous. He highlighted that the Nigerian Terrorism Prevention Prohibition Act of 2022 defines terrorism to include the use of violence, coercion, and subversion of democratic institutions for political gain.

Falana criticized the parties for their immediate reactions to the ruling and called on the Federal Government to engage immigration lawyers to address the potential implications, such as visa denials and deportations for Nigerian citizens affiliated with APC and PDP. He emphasized the need for security agencies and the judiciary to ensure that political party members operate within the legal framework, especially during elections.
