Nigeria, South Africa Armies Enhance Military Cooperation

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening military cooperation with the South African Army to enhance regional security and professional capacity across Africa. This announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday, following an official visit by the Chief of the South African Army, Lieutenant General Lawrenc Khulekani Mbatha, to the Nigerian Army headquarters in Abuja.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, emphasized the importance of sharing training and operational knowledge to tackle emerging security threats, particularly in counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria's northeast. The collaboration aims to develop specialized training frameworks to ensure battlefield survival and effective counter-terrorism operations.

Additionally, the partnership will facilitate exchanges of technical cooperation and operational exercises, contributing to building a robust regional security architecture. The Nigerian Army currently has officers attending courses at the South African Defence College, further enhancing operational knowledge and strategic leadership development.
