Nigeria, South Africa Strengthen Military Cooperation

During a gala night in Abuja, Lt Gen Lawrence Mbatha, Chief of the South African Army, stated that stronger military cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa is essential for ensuring peace and stability across Africa. His visit aimed to deepen defense diplomacy and strengthen military collaboration between the two nations.

Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, noted the historical partnership and shared values between the two armies, emphasizing their commitment to peace and security development in Africa. The collaboration includes military education, exchange programs, and capacity development initiatives to tackle complex security threats such as terrorism, insurgency, and organized crime.

Both military leaders acknowledged the evolving security environment in Africa, which necessitates enhanced cooperation. Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's commitment to building a highly professional and combat-ready force capable of addressing contemporary threats within a joint multi-agency environment.
