Nigerian, South African Armies Unite Against Security Threats

The Nigerian Army, led by Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is partnering with the South African Army to tackle emerging security threats in the region. During an official visit to Nigeria's Army headquarters in Abuja, South African Army Chief Lieutenant General Lawrenc Khulekani Mbatha engaged with Lieutenant General Shaibu to discuss enhancing military cooperation.

Shaibu highlighted the critical need for closer collaboration among African militaries to address complex security challenges, particularly counter-terrorism efforts in Nigeria's northeast. The Nigerian Army is developing a robust training framework to equip troops with necessary skills to combat modern threats, including improvised explosive devices used by terrorist groups.

The partnership aims to strengthen training programs and military education, with Nigerian officers currently attending courses at the South African Defence College. The collaboration will also explore technical cooperation in aviation, leveraging South Africa's expertise to enhance Nigeria's military capabilities.

Both armies committed to sustaining joint training operations and technical exchanges to promote regional security.
