Nigeria's Mixed Relay Team Sets African Record in Gaborone

On Saturday, Nigeria's mixed 4x100m relay team achieved a remarkable feat by securing a place at the World Championships in China with a record time of 40.24 seconds during the semi-finals in Gaborone. The quartet, consisting of Ash, Jennif, Chukwuka, Obi, Chidera Ezeakor, Maria Thompson, and Omokw, delivered a performance that not only qualified them but also set a new African record.

They finished behind Canada, which set a world record of 40.07 seconds, and ahead of Germany (40.15 seconds) and the Netherlands (40.20 seconds). Despite the success in the mixed relay, Nigeria faced challenges in other events, including the absence of key athletes like Rosemari Chukwuma and Bless Ogundiran, which affected their automatic qualification in the women's 4x100m and 4x400m events.

The team remains focused on their medal chase in the final against top sprinting nations, including Jamaica and the United States.
