Nigeria's Mixed 4x100m Team Qualifies for 2027 Worlds

Nigeria's mixed 4x100m relay team secured a place at the 2027 World Athletics Championships in China by reaching the finals during the competition held in Gaborone, Botswana. The quartet, consisting of Ash Jennif, Chukwuka Obi, Chidera Ezeakor, and Maria Thompson Omokw, delivered a strong performance, stopping the clock at 40.24 seconds, which also broke their own African record.

Despite facing intense competition from global rivals, Nigeria finished among the best qualifiers. Canada won the semi-final with a world record time of 40.07 seconds, followed by Germany at 40.15 seconds and the Netherlands at 40.20 seconds.

While Nigeria's participation in several relay events was affected by the absence of key athletes, including Rosemary Chukwuma and Bless Ogundiran, the team remains optimistic about additional qualification opportunities in the upcoming rounds for men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m events. The team aims to produce standout performances at the 2026 World Athletics Championships.
