Nigeria's Vice President Forms Committee for Food Security

On October 21, Vice President Kashim Shettima constituted a committee aimed at expediting strategic interventions in Nigeria's agricultural sector, particularly in wheat and staple crop production, as well as livestock development. This decision was made during a high-level meeting on agricultural sector performance at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Shettima urged committee members to collaborate and develop a blueprint for implementing these interventions. The committee includes representatives from various ministries, including Agriculture and Food Security, Water Resources and Sanitation, and Livestock Development, as well as financial institutions and agricultural organizations.
Ms. Marion Moon, the Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Agriculture and Head of the Presidential Food Systems Coordinating Unit, will coordinate the committee. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, emphasized the need for collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to bridge existing gaps in agricultural development.
