AgriShield Initiative to Boost Food Security in Nigeria

The Federal Government is enhancing the link between national security and food security through the AgriShield Initiative, led by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in the Office of the National Security Adviser, in collaboration with TAG International. The initiative's pilot program in Borno State addresses the critical need for farmers to access their land safely.

AgriShield promotes agricultural recovery and secure livelihoods, with the central message, “Our Presence is Your Peace.” A baseline survey conducted between June and July involved 1,409 residents across Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Jere, and Mafa, revealing that only 17% were aware of local actions against violent extremism. The program will run from October to December and will include radio programs, town hall meetings, and community engagement to address food security and safety concerns.
